How Furlan uses ISO 9001:2015 to satisfy customers
Share
Máquinas Furlan has completed the second cycle of audits to maintain its ISO 9001:2015 certification without any compliance. The audit takes place 2 years after the company was recertified by Bureau Veritas.
The requirements set forth in the standard were used primarily to satisfy customers, through excellent processes and a qualified team. During the audits, all of Furlan's sectors are assessed, including administrative, commercial and occupational safety practices.
Check out the steps involved in applying ISO 9001:2015 below, and how Furlan was assessed in this audit.
Understand ISO, applied in 170 countries
First of all, it is important to note that ISO 9001 proves that the industry has developed a quality management system that, in general terms, carries out any operation or activity with a focus on customer satisfaction and that adopts management transparency.
ISO 9001:2015 seeks to make processes more agile through the participation of various sectors of the company. In this scenario, Quality Management encourages a company to be more competitive, improve its operational performance and expand its business.
It is estimated that, in the industrial segment, ISO 9001:2015 is present in more than 170 countries. The English nomenclature ISO, translated into Portuguese, means “International Organization for Standardization”.
In our country, the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT) and the National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (Inmetro) participate in the actions, in addition to certified companies.
Evaluating production and ESG goals
In 2021, Máquinas Furlan received its most recent certification, ISO 9001:2015. Now, the second cycle of certification maintenance audits took place, between April 17th and 19th.
The audit begins with senior management, analyzing the company's strategic planning, prepared in partnership with Fundação Dom Cabral (FDC). Actions to meet the company's goals in the commercial, financial, production and ESG (an acronym for good environmental, safety and governance practices) areas are verified.
From there, an auditorium visits the other departments, checking the actions taken to ensure internal and external customer satisfaction, in addition to reducing the chance of errors. Furlan currently adopts several management tools that assist in these actions, such as FMEA, APQP, PPAP and CEP.
Simulations using leak and finite element software, as well as problem-solving tools such as the 8D methodology, are part of the practices. During the production process, evidence is collected from various tests carried out to ensure the quality of Furlan products.
In any situation, auditors seek to find weaknesses in the company's system. This allows improvement actions to be taken to avoid potential problems.
Since recertification, Furlan has reaped at least 6 rewards:
1. Increased customer satisfaction (internal and external).
2. Improvement in processes and everyone’s commitment to quality.
3. Employee motivation.
4. Conquering new customers and new markets.
5. Greater compliance with legal requirements.
6. Approach to business risks and opportunities.
Processes that increase customer satisfaction
The scope of Furlan's certification involves “design, development, production, renovation and marketing of machines, equipment, castings and production systems for the processing of minerals”.
Throughout its 61 years of history, Máquinas Furlan has developed this scope in products and services, while seeking excellence.
An example of this is the renovation of equipment. In most cases, Furlan not only updates the machines used in a mine, but also suggests improvements so that the plant's productivity can be increased.

The certification also reinforces Furlan's work in collecting and analyzing information. These are measures that, in the daily life of a mining industry, help in making the right decision regarding investment in a machine, for example.
The process includes choosing the best type of steel alloy to be used in the equipment or wear part.
