Discover 6 types of mining parts that need to be monitored
Share
Production costs have been one of the industry's main challenges. Business profitability depends on the assessment of resources invested throughout the production chain, including spare parts and wear parts in mining.
That's why the Máquinas Furlan team decided to address the topic in this article in a very educational way. We took as examples six types of parts that are highly required in the various stages of mineral processing. From there, we discussed best practices, including maintenance planning and availability in the mining company's warehouse.
Choosing a supplier that combines reliability and quality is also evaluated. Check it out.
6 types of parts that require greater monitoring
Studies conducted by experts indicate that wear and replacement parts represent 40 to 60% of a mining company's production costs. One way to reduce the cost of parts is to invest in preventive and predictive maintenance.
This practice also reduces downtime in the plant. The checklist for crushing, grinding and screening equipment helps to reduce unscheduled shutdowns.
Of course, the vision must be complete, as well as evaluating the plant as a whole. All equipment must be operated correctly, always seeking to maintain its original characteristics.
However, as a guideline, we asked the Furlan team which parts are most in demand by customers. This way, we were able to come up with a list of the main items that deserve closer monitoring.
There are six types of parts, followed by the processing stage in which they are required:
1. Jaws (crushing)
2. Mantles (crushing)
3. Linings (crushing)
4. Rollers (grinding)
5. Hammers (grinding)
6. Grids (sieving).
Management experts also say that the practice of listing priorities helps in creating or improving a preventionist culture in processing aimed at generating materials for mining, aggregates for construction or agribusiness.
Thus, we can start planning by taking into account one or more of the items mentioned above, and over time we will improve those that deserve to be prioritized based on the characteristics of the deposit and the final products.
Planning for mining parts in 2024 has already begun
Recently, the Furlan team presented a communication to customers citing the need for planning. The communication piece was direct, with the phrase:
“The adjustment counter-wedge acquired in October 2021 is scheduled to be replaced in February 2024.”
The mention of the counter-wedge specifically opens space for the customer to think again about the annual schedule of wear parts for the first half of 2024. At Furlan, two benefits obtained with this schedule are savings and predictability, from the integration of the mining company into the “Furlan Advance Part” program.
The program generates a schedule for supplying components at more competitive prices for the customer, precisely based on this planning. In the mine, downtime resulting from scheduled or unscheduled shutdowns will be increasingly shorter.
The mining company also has a financial advantage by avoiding keeping excess parts in stock.
Be careful when choosing a parts supplier
Furlan decided to create the program due to another issue that was felt by the market: reliability in the supplier of equipment and parts. The quality of the material used in the alloys must ensure that wear occurs within the schedule.
Máquinas Furlan has been operating in the mining market for 61 years. Participation in thousands of projects has provided expertise that allows us to offer mining companies the right solution, from simple everyday situations to more challenging cases, such as the development of special alloys, aimed at improving equipment performance.
The company's own foundry works with 12,000 models of parts and components for Furlan and other domestic and imported equipment. This operation is carried out by the Metallurgical Excellence team, which includes representatives from the sales team and those responsible for producing the part.
The composition of the team allows not only the delivery of these items, but also the offering of improvements in the alloys – for example. Customization is one of Furlan's differentiators, since its industrial park allows the generation of specific solutions for each mining company.
