Opportunity: mining companies must be aware of agricultural correctives
Share
An event held last week in Cuiabá (MT) brought good news for mining and quarrying companies: the use of soil acidity correctors should grow in Brazil.
Consumption will be driven by the search for high productivity in agribusiness. At the same time, dosage recommendations are being reviewed by researchers. In the case of limestone alone, the discrepancy reaches 30%.
Agricultural gypsum and remineralizers are also products with growing demand, as shown by the 1st National Forum on Soil Correctives. Máquinas Furlan, which sponsored the Forum, specializes in equipment for mining industries that serve agribusiness.
These machines are known for their robustness and efficiency in generating products for agriculture.

Soil acidity affects 70% of crops in Brazil
The debate has been going on for a long time. Portugal's messenger, Pero Vaz de Caminha, made at least one mistake when writing a letter to King Dom Manuel of Portugal in 1500. The letter contained an account of Brazil, which had been discovered that year.
It is in this letter that the famous phrase is found: “In this land, if you plant, everything grows!”
In fact, Caminha was right, but only partially. Perhaps motivated by the exuberance of the vegetation, the messenger made an approach to the conditions of the Brazilian soil for subsistence purposes.
Due to their geological formation, land in tropical countries has high acidity. This scenario is one of the main obstacles to large-scale food production.
Studies show that more than 70% of Brazil's land is acidic. Cerrado soil is an example of this, extending from Mato Grosso to properties in São Paulo.
Opportunities for mining companies: limestone, gypsum and remineralizers
Correcting soil pH results in high agricultural productivity. And this creates a business opportunity for mining and quarrying companies: the soil amendment market.
On October 25th, the Brazilian Association of Agricultural Limestone Producers (Abracal) held the 1st National Forum on Soil Correctives, sponsored by Máquinas Furlan.
The event, in Cuiabá, took place on the eve of the 23rd edition of the National Meeting of Limestone Producers (Enacal). From the Furlan team, the commercial representatives Luís Henrique Barbosa and Caio Silva Barbosa and the Business Supervisor, Lucas Fernando da Costa - pictured above - were there.
The Forum's debates sought to update the recommendations for correctives. Some experts in the field believe that the doses need to be reviewed, due to issues such as the intensive use of the Direct Planting System and irregular rainy periods.
A considerable number of these recommendations date from the 1980s and 1990s, when conditions in arable areas were different.
The Forum's themes also signaled opportunities. One of the panels addressed the construction of a soil profile for high productivity, with the application of higher doses of correctives.
Another topic mentioned the benefits of the integrated use of agricultural limestone and gypsum. This mixture has been very common, as it offers different solutions to farmers.
Finally, the debates were rounded off by practices related to soil remineralization. The presentations brought together professors and researchers from renowned universities, such as Esalq and Lavras/MG. Representatives from Embrapa also gave lectures.
Here On the blog, we have already talked about remineralizers and rocking.
At the Forum, there were experts from different states, such as Mato Grosso do Sul, Goiás, Paraná and São Paulo. Researchers say, for example, that Mato Grosso is doing well in grain production, but that it would be better if it used more correctives.
According to Abracal, pent-up demand in the country for limestone alone exceeds 30%. At the same time, farmers see correctives as a way to reduce costs.
Furlan equipment for those who supply agribusiness
Máquinas Furlan brought its 61 years of experience in the field to the National Forum on Soil Correctives. Among the equipment used in a plant that will generate products for agribusiness, Furlan has:
. Vibrating Feeders;
. Jaw Crushers;
. Cone Crushers;
. OM Impact Crusher (Rock-Rock);
. Vibrating grids;
. Vibrating Screens;
. and High Frequency Vibrating Screens.
They are robust and highly productive equipment. Easy to operate, they are also gaining market share due to their low maintenance costs.
Find out in the video.
High frequency screens can be used, among other purposes, to classify products in rock. Click here and learn more about our sieves.
Furlan also offers a line of highly durable wear and replacement parts. It is worth noting that the alignment between the Furlan team and the client allows for assertive solutions, aligned with the quarry's objectives – to be more productive or to create a line aimed at the agricultural sector.
And it is worth remembering that agribusiness is the sector of the economy that is growing sustainably and today accounts for 1 in every 4 reais of the Brazilian GDP. So, talk to us here and learn how to expand your business by taking advantage of this opportunity.
